Carl is CEO of Lovsted-Worthington. A longtime Seattle resident, Carl graduated from the University of Washington in 1981. After a year of training at a Portland insurance company, he moved back to the Seattle area to begin his career in the family insurance brokerage business. For the next ten years, he built his own book of business and learned from his father, from whom he purchased Lovsted Company in 1992. In 2000, Carl and Dean Young put together the merger of Lovsted Company with Worthington Insurance, forming Lovsted-Worthington LLC.
During his insurance career, Carl has chaired several committees for the Independent Insurance Agents of Washington, and has served on many local and national advisory councils for insurance carriers that Lovsted-Worthington works with. Carl has developed strong relationships with many of their top executives over the years. Outside of insurance, he enjoys boating, biking, golf—almost all outdoor activities. Carl, his wife, and three children reside in the Seattle area.
Dean is President of Lovsted-Worthington. A Seattle native, Dean graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in Business Administration and Construction Management. After working in the construction industry for a few years, he joined Worthington Insurance in 1988, and built a construction-focused insurance and bonding clientele. He purchased Worthington Insurance in 1998 and in 2000, put together a strategic merger with Carl Lovsted III and the Lovsted Company, forming Lovsted-Worthington, LLC.
He received his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1994, and is a past president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of King County. He will serve as the president of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of Washington in 2009-10. Dean has sat on numerous insurance company agency councils, and has served on non-profit boards for the University of Washington and the YMCA of Greater Seattle. Apart from his business, Dean enjoys skiing, golf, and boating on Puget Sound with his wife and two children.
Mark is Vice President of Commercial Lines at Lovsted-Worthington and an account executive in our Commercial Insurance department. He offers clients more than 30 years of insurance experience as a claim representative, underwriting manager, and broker. He joined Lovsted-Worthington as a partner in 1991, after ten years at Travelers Insurance Co. and five years with a national brokerage firm.
Mark heads the teams that provide resources and services for his accounts, approaching each with a specialized risk management strategy and always aiming to reduce the total cost of risk and insurance. Mark states "Quietly, we get the job done right." His background in underwriting and claims makes him both a excellent negotiator with insurance companies and an outstanding client advocate. His portfolio of custom risk management programs includes financial institutions, construction, manufacturing, food processing, real estate, architects/engineers, and other local businesses.
